Dear Well Wishers,

I joined Shri Pyarelal Memorial Charitable Trust as the ____________ in _____. Under the banner of my Grandfather's presidency, I was eager to learn. I knew I had a lot to learn from my grandfather, and perhaps, if I could fulfill all my responsibilities as the __________, maybe in a few years, I would be ready to take over the reins.

What he has made for me was his legacy, his life's work, and his dreams. I will never know if God Almighty or my grandfather considered me capable to step into his shoes. I will never know if I am capable. But I did know that it was my responsibility to try and even though, there is no education or theoretical lesson that can prepare one to take care of hundreds of family members, have hope.

I remember A smile on the face of a resident who now has a home. I, like my grandfather, find inspiration and motivation in the little things. Sewa though seems like a beautiful journey, does not promise beautiful sights. What you see and what you face will never come with a guarantee of whether it is a form of kindness or pure cruelty, however, it does guarantee that whatever you see is the reality of this world. In my view, that is a privilege not most people are given by God Almighty, to see the world for what it really is. We, as humans, have been given the power to turn mortuaries into flower beds but also flower beds into mortuaries. The parent that raises their children with love and care is abandoned on the roads by the same children, educated people who become mentally disabled become a liability to their loved ones, and people on their deathbeds find themselves awaiting death alone on a hospital bed without their busy families.

When we give them a home in our shelters, it is not the cruelty that they have faced in their pasts that shocks me, but that they still continue to find a reason to live, grow, and rehabilitate. Despite having been exposed to the cruelty this world has to offer, they are grateful. I learn from their strength and blessings each day. I would like to add the sincerest thanks to the dedicated team members that work around the clock with me to ensure that we can provide our selfless services to all those who need them.
